Grandma's Apothec is an Artisanal - Ethical - Natural company where unconventional ingredients are applied to our formulation, such as infused herbal carrier oils and butters, essential oils, herbal extract floral waters, pigments, vitamins and minerals, actives and proteins, emollients, natural preservatives and many others.

Our mission is to create high-quality handmade care products with simple elements from nature. Luxurious products shaped in an old-fashioned way: free of harmful preservatives, hydrogenated vegetable oils, petroleum-based ingredients, micro-beads, toxic synthetic ingredients and plastic packaging.

QUALITY

Nothing is more rewarding than using pure handmade care products created in nature for you. We are determined to create superior products that:

​​​

• ​Exclude potentially unsafe ingredients. When necessary in a few formulations, we use synthetic ingredients certified Ecocert and/or COSMOS.

​

• Anhydrous skincare products, meaning Waterless Beauty! By removing the water, we do not have to use any preservatives. Result: rich formulas and a high concentration of active elements for ​many practical uses.

​

• Our anhydrous products are naturally self-preserving and, what’s more, we use vitamin E oil/rosemary oil extracts as antioxidants to keep the formulas fresh. 

​

• In a few formulations, where necessary, we use “nature-identical” preservatives known as sorbates. Sorbates are considered safe for humans and do not accumulate in the environment.

GREEN

Using environmentally-friendly ingredients and packaging, we believe in sustainability from start to finish. We believe that we have the responsibility to look after our planet, a value that brought me to the Soap Project.

 

We package our formulations in glass bottles and jars, cardboard tubes, fabrics, rustic paper and aluminum tubes which are completely and infinitely reusable and/or biodegradable. We avoid using unnecessary packaging and wrapping materials.

​

Our products do not contain endangered ingredients from the ​Red List of Threatened Species.  ​Sandalwood (Santalum album), Rosewood (Aniba Rosaeodora) and Atlas Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica) are linked to loss of biodiversity, and Palm Oil is linked to deforestation.

​

We utterly exclude petroleum-based ingredients, and we are 100% cruelty-free.

Shea Butter and Coconut Oil are two of the most used and cherished ingredients in our potions, sourced from​ ​Baraka Shea Butter, a Canadian/Ghanaian family-owned business located on Vancouver Island in Canada. This is a small, mission-driven business that helps to give the dignity of income to hard-working women from northern Ghana. Every purchase has a direct impact on hard-working women and their families.

Engaging in our communities is another part of our values. Since the beginning of my project, l supported different non-profit organizations teaching the Alchemy of Soap and Bath Bombs.

We disclose all cosmetic ingredients to Health Canada through the Cosmetic Notification Form. This lets Health Canada monitor ingredients and keeps a record of all cosmetics sold in Canada. Through our application, we disclose all our ingredients on the product label, which lets consumers identify and avoid cosmetics with ingredients that are of concern to them. CNF view
