Grandma's Apothec is an ethical, natural company that uses unconventional ingredients, including herbal carrier oils, butters, essential oils, herbal extracts, pigments, vitamins, minerals, actives, proteins, emollients, and natural preservatives.

 

In short, Natural Beauty Alchemy. Our mission is to craft high-quality, handmade care products from simple, natural elements—luxurious, old-fashioned, free of harmful preservatives, petroleum ingredients, microbeads, synthetic toxins, and plastic packaging.​

QUALITY

 

We aim to create exceptional products that leave out potentially harmful ingredients, except for a few formulations where we use synthetic ingredients certified by Ecocert and/or COSMOS.

​

Our waterless, anhydrous skincare formulas eliminate the need for preservatives, resulting in rich, active concentrates for many uses. These products are naturally self-preserving.

 

When needed, some formulations also incorporate "nature-identical” preservatives like Sorbates, which are considered safe for humans and do not accumulate in the environment.

GREEN

Using environmentally-friendly ingredients and packaging, we believe in sustainability from start to finish. We believe that we have the responsibility to look after our planet, a value that brought me to the Soap Project.

 

We package our formulations in glass bottles and jars, cardboard tubes, fabrics, rustic paper and aluminum tubes, which are entirely and infinitely reusable and/or biodegradable. We avoid using unnecessary packaging and wrapping materials.

 

Our products do not contain endangered ingredients from the ​Red List of Threatened Species.  ​Sandalwood (Santalum album) and Rosewood (Aniba Rosaeodora)  are linked to loss of biodiversity, and Palm Oil is linked to deforestation.

We utterly exclude petroleum-based ingredients, and we are 100% cruelty-free.

FAIR TRADE

Shea Butter and Coconut Oil are key ingredients in our potions, sourced from Baraka Shea Butter, a Canadian/Ghanaian family business on Vancouver Island. This small, mission-driven company empowers women in northern Ghana, with each purchase supporting them and their families.

 

We value community engagement. Since starting my project, I have supported non-profits teaching the Alchemy of Soap and Bath Bombs.

We are a 100% small Canadian business, mainly sourcing from local Canadian suppliers:

We disclose all cosmetic ingredients to Health Canada via the Cosmetic Notification Form, allowing monitoring and records of cosmetics sold. Our application also reveals ingredients on product labels, allowing consumers to identify and avoid ingredients of concern.
